Freedom and Decolonisation
A presentation in English of Freedom and Decolonisation, the manifesto behind the demonstration held in Barcelona on Saturday 3 October 2026.
The manifesto begins from a historical claim: a century and a half ago Catalans still held an idea of Spain of their own and contested control of the State. Since then, it argues, that State has been appropriated by the other party to the relationship, and the independence process of the last decade was an attempt to accept the loss and build something new in its place — an offer that repeated democratic majorities were not enough to make acceptable.
From there it sets out what it considers three errors: trying to reform the State from outside, or to build a smaller copy of it; treating the State as something foreign and refusing any relation with power at all; and reading the conflict in ethnic rather than political terms. The problem, the manifesto argues, is political — a dispute over power — and that is what decides the way out of it.
